Winter in Québec is meant to be lived outdoors: skiing, snowshoeing, snowy villages. And many of the best destinations are a few hours' drive from Montréal. Here are a few winter getaway ideas and our tips for choosing the right rental vehicle.
The Laurentians. North of Montréal, the region has several ski resorts, including Tremblant, one of the best known in Québec. Ideal for a family ski weekend.
The Eastern Townships. To the southeast, Bromont, Sutton and Orford are among the region's ski resorts, with villages that make for great winter outings.
Québec City. For a more urban getaway, the provincial capital is worth the trip in winter, with snowy Old Québec. For more ideas, visit Bonjour Québec, Québec's official tourism site.
An SUV if you are bringing luggage or ski gear: cargo space makes all the difference. Our fleet includes compact, mid-size, family and off-road SUVs.
A 7-seat vehicle if you are travelling as a group: our Caravan and our XXL SUV seat 7 passengers.
A sedan for a getaway for two in the city, Québec City for example. Browse the full fleet and prices for your dates.
Winter tires are mandatory in Québec from December 1 to March 15, including on rental vehicles. Check road conditions on Québec 511 before you leave, especially in the mountains, and keep a winter kit in the vehicle: snow brush, ice scraper, windshield washer fluid and shovel. If a storm is forecast, postpone your departure if you can.
